The Pentagon said Tuesday that the United States has spent nearly $29 billion (about S$36.9 billion) so far in the war with Iran, an increase of $4 billion from the estimate at the end of April.

According to reports from Reuters and AFP, Pentagon Acting Chief Accountant Hearst told lawmakers on Tuesday (May 12) that the latest figures include costs for updated equipment repairs and replacements, as well as operating costs.

On April 29, Hearst said at a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee that the United States has spent $25 billion on war to date.

Hearst said, "At the time of my testimony... the figure was $25 billion. But the Joint Chiefs of Staff team and the Comptroller General have been reviewing the estimate, and we now believe the figure is closer to $29 billion."
