Trump: Venezuelan President Maduro has been arrested

U.S. President Donald Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social on Saturday (January 3) that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife had been arrested and deported.

Trump wrote: "The United States has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolás Maduro, who and his wife have been arrested and deported."

He revealed that a press conference will be held at Mar-a-Lago in Florida at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturday (0:00 a.m. Singapore Time on Sunday (4th)).

Multiple loud bangs were heard in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, early Saturday morning, causing power outages in several areas of the city, including near a major military base in the south. Reuters reported that witnesses heard planes flying overhead and saw thick smoke billowing over Caracas.

CBS News later quoted U.S. officials as saying that Trump ordered attacks on multiple targets in Venezuela, including military facilities .

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also issued a ban early Saturday morning, prohibiting U.S. aircraft from flying over Venezuelan airspace.
